Marvel Movie & TV News Roundup (Spiderman

Jeph Loeb promoted to head Marvel's TV productions

Jeph Loeb was recently put in charge of Marvel's production of TV shows looking to expand their animated series' and start its own tv shows through the ABC networks. Im quite optimistic about this. Loeb wrote some decent stuff for Marvel in the past and worked on plenty of Successful TV shows like Lost, Smallville & Buffy

Spider-man

Sony will soon reveal their Spider-man after screentesting all possible candidates. The list of candidates reads as follows:

Captain America

Dominic Cooper to play a young Howard Stark in the Captain America movie and Tommy Lee Jones` role finally revealed. He will be playing General Chester Philips, the man who recruits Steve Rogers into the Super Soldier program.

There are some other rumours related to casting for X-Men First class but they arent very interesting so i wont bother posting about them :p

Movies: X-Men: First Class - Casting Update

Michael Fassbender, whom you might know from his role in Inglorious Bastards, is now officially cast as the young Magneto. Fassbender landed some key roles in recent years including 300 and the new Centurion movie. He joins the following people now as the official cast for X-Men: First class rounds itself up:

James McAvoy - Professor X

Ben Walker - Beast

Amber Heard - Mystique

Rosamund Pike - Moira Mactaggert

Though i cant help but think that Rosamund Pike is a little old for the part of Moira Mactaggert. Mactaggert is a love interest of Charles Xaviers afterall.

Yves Saint Laurent “No Way Back” by Ari Marcopoulos

Watched this video today and just found it strangely compelling. The tattoo artist, Mark Mahoney, seems like quite a character in the way that he talks, his appearance. I also felt that i could relate a little when he tells about how his art teacher told him he could never be a painter. I remember when my art teacher told me that i was 'wasting everybodys time' back when i was busy failing art class in high school. Not like ive actually gotten anywhere today but i like to think that in some ways, i am an artist.

Creating my own Webcomic Part II

Here is the progress so far:

I wonder if this is the kind of thing people would be interested in. I know its not much to work with so far but if anyone has any comments or criticisms please leave some for me. Bearing in mind, the level of detail is going to be quite low though i am kinda tempted to go back in and make complete backgrounds (something im not usually very good at).
There is no official title yet but i have a couple of ideas in mind

World Cup Musings

Every time somebody in Japan mentions the world cup to me, they laugh at England`s poor performance and ask why they are so bad. And so i kept telling them "it`s the managers fault." and "they just have to start Defoe and that will kick start everything". Well last night, we proved something. As soon as Defoe put one in it was as if the whole England team found some confidence. It didnt last the whole game but for a time it seemed another goal was imminent. I was fortunate to be joined by 2 other British guys, a Brazilian and a Korean who both wanted to come and support England with us last night. It was awesome to have such an atmosphere in the confines of a tiny Minesawa dorm room.

Though actually, im Welsh. But pretty much my entire family is English so im not the type that understands the Welsh hatred for the English or England which i think is more of an undying trend than anything else.
United
Kingdom? Hardly.

Loved seeing South Korea go through and if the Japanese can get through to the last 16, the world cup atmosphere over here is sure to be immense :D

Marvel Studios: Avengers casting & SDCC rumours

Word has it that the roles of Hank and Janet pym have been cast with Nathan Fillion and Eva Longoria. Which is kinda dissapointing considering that Fillion is perfect to play the role of Hawkeye. Oh well, at least Eva Longoria as Janet might make up for that :D

In other news, Ed Norton and Fillion are bothe expected to be at the Avengers panel at SDCC. If this is true then it means we are gonna get the Hulk in the Avengers movie!!!! v(^_^)v. or at least Bruce :p
There will also be panels for Thor and Cap with the Thor panel expected to show the trailer for Thor

Life in Japan: Coping with humidity (or not)

The humidity here sucks balls! This has already been shown in one of my previous posts where i explained how it made me partially deaf for two days. On top of that now, i find that im having trouble sleeping and constantly have some kind of respiratory problem (stuffy or runny nose, coughing etc). Its not much fun after finally getting maybe 1 hours sleep to just wake up feeling like crap. Fans? they are no use either, just blow hot air around the room :(. I really hope that when Pete comes here, he will be lucky enough to have a room with air con so that he doesnt have to put up with this ****.

Also, ive been advised to buy some humidity moisture absorbing items to help avoid getting mold in my room, on my clothes, stuff or even worse...on my persons :s. so i bought about 4 of these bad boys and scattered them around the room:

The cotton balls in the top of the device absorb moisture in the air which collects as water in the bottom and they apparently last between 1-3 months. Only cost 105 yen each! :D. Hope they work p(^_^)q

Korean Movie Review: 'A Love' (2007)

'A Love' (2007)
Action/Drama/Romance
6.5/10

Felt like a mash up of ideas from other movies, rolled into one. As if, A Bittersweet Life, Friend and maybe Gangster High had all been put together. The story follows a young man who promises to take care of the woman he loves, facing many dangers and sacrifices along the way and eventually lives the life of a gangster, whilst all the while trying to find his love again. Its a pretty good movie but it just felt like a clone of a bunch of other Korean movies with similar topics. Except, less dramatic.

Life In Japan: Air Con would be nice right about now....

Im one of the unfortunate people here at the dorm whose room is not air conditioned. This is a problem when you face summer in Japan. Im starting to feel the heat, literally, and some days all you have to do is move and you break a sweat. Its uncomfortable and im starting to wonder if i can survive the summer without an air con unit. Well, im definitely not buying one so i HAVE to find a way. On top of that, rainy season started so its hard to get from A to B these days without getting completely soaked, with or without an umbrella :s

Creating My Own Webcomic.....

Creating my own webcomic is something i have been wanting to do for a while. In fact, i've taken many different shots over the past couple of years at getting one off the ground, always resulting failure. So i wondered why it always turned out that way and then realised that i was aiming way above myself. The story was never a problem and actually its a story that i've thought up over the years and refined to a point where im proud of it and really want to tell it. So why has it been a failure up to this point? My skills as an artist weren't good enough. Im not saying they are any better now but the recent reverse evolution of my skills has shown me that there's another more simple, less time consuming, more cutesy way of doing it. And so, before i bore you with any more talk, i'll get to the point....

Im going to start my own webcomic! :D
It will involve Yakuza, Violence, Guns, Action and Romance. Yes you heard it right, its a yakuza love story. Well, just to prove that i started it, say hello to the first frame......

Games: Marvel Vs Capcom 3 E3 Gameplay Footage

There's a whole bunch of videos on youtube of MVC3 from this year's E3. From viewing the videos, it seems that the gameplay is exactly the same as MVC2, which is great but i really cant find much love for the art style. Oh well, its better than NOT having a new MVC :p

Korean Movie Review: 'Secret Reunion' (2010)

'Secret Reunion'
Drama/Thriller
7/10

I knew nothing about this movie before i watched it other then the fact that Kang-Ho Song (in poster above, right side) was the star and so based on that i took a chance on this movie. Like always with Kang-Ho Song, it paid off. Does this guy have some kind of midas touch? or does he just seem to pick the right roles/movies every time? Either way, i haven't seen a bad movie of his yet and this one was no different.

The movie is about a North Korean defector who teams up with Kang-Ho Song`s character to track down missing or wanted persons. Theres a bit more to it than that including some assassination shizzle going down but i dont really want to spoil the movie and im not good enough to write reviews with spoilers, let alone without them. Anyway the movie was pretty good throughout! Had some funny moments and some all the noticable cast members made this movie worthwhile. Overall, a good movie :D

maybe the barrel isnt running dry just yet....

Life in Japan: Going to the hospital

above:横浜市民病院 (Yokohama Municipal Hospital)

So today was my second visit to the hospital here in Japan. The first time i went to the hospital here was to get my hand x-rayed in search of broken glass caused by a drunken stumble an accident during my time in Korea. The consultation and X ray cost me about 1000 yen (£7) and i had to sign up for a 横浜市民病院 medical card and registration costing me about 3000 yen (£21). Overall i thought that was pretty good and though it wasnt a completely fun or memorable experience, it was trouble free and proved that my Japanese ability is sufficient.

Today was just more of the same really except this time i had woken up in the morning, completely deaf in my right ear. After first being sent to the wrong department (urology, where they check out your piss) i eventually worked my way to the waiting room for the ear and doctor guys (cant remember the medical term sorry). Whilst there, i saw a whole bunch of crazy people talking to themselves but the two and a half hours waiting time (lack of appointment see) was spent in conversation with an elderly Japanese lady who kept rambling and giving me chocolates.

Once in the examination room, the doctor told me "if you had come here tomorrow, you would be completely deaf in both ears". Imagine trying to communicate in Japanese with no hearing ability at all! that would be an epic clusterfuck of a day at the hospital i reckon. Cant really use the old gaijin "はい" trick where you just answer "yes" to everything and hope for the best. Probably would have ended up having my cock chopped off too.
Anyway, they cleaned my ears out, i can hear again and it only cost me 660 yen (£4)
bargain!

K-Drama: Comrades (2010)

Looks FUCKING AWESOME!!!! :D

Starts June 19th p(^_^)q

K-Drama: Bad Guy (2010)

So now im watching the new "Bad Guy" drama and so far, its nothing special (though ive only seen the first episode). It has a strange feel to it though, like i can predict many of the outcomes of this show. This is because it weirdly resembles the J Drama "A Million Stars Fall From The Sky". So based on that, im expecting:

  • Main guy makes a couple of women (at least 2) fall in love with him.
  • One of those women eventually he winds up in love with.
  • The woman he falls for in the end turns out to be his actual sister
  • They kill themselves

Theres also a whole bunch of revenge shizzle going on and i think that the first episode suffered from trying to set up too many things at once and so im gonna give the show a chance and hope that everything will flesh out effectively. I also love one of the songs they play:

On another note, im still getting through Cinderella`s Sister which, at times, has been really quite boring. I mean sure, its a Korean TV Drama but the people in this show are continuously miserable and it just feels like they are going around in circles. The first couple of episodes were awesome. I hope i can be arsed to finish it or at least know when to drop it before i realise ive wasted my time on it.

Thor: Set Tour & Cast Interviews

Thor & Captain America: Official Movie Logos revealed!

As seen at the 2010 Licensing expo yesterday

Marvel Studios: Kevin Pennington Rumours

It has been tipped by a whole bunch of different sources lately that Kevin Pennington (90210) has been signed up on a contract with Marvel Studios. Rumours have it that he needs to be used in some capacity by 2013 or the contract expires but that the main focus is to have him in the avengers. Following rumours that he would be playing Rick Jones (The guy semi-responsible for Bruce Banner becoming the Hulk) but this was shot down later today by Pennington himself on his Twitter thread:
I won't be able to say "I'm Rick Jones, Bitch!!!" like I wanted to... haha :) By the way, that was confirmation that I'm not Rick Jones in Avengers. :)

He also took some other roles out of possibility:

@Richard829 Nope, hasn't changed... I'm not playing Ant-Man or Hawkeye. :)

So nobody knows who this guys i going to be playing. However, he did mention that he will be at SDCC July 22-July25 (San Diego Comic Con) so maybe we can expect to have his role revealed by then :D:
Just found out that i'm going to SDCC... looking forward to meeting some of you there. Who else is going?
The only other things being thrown around are rumours that he will play either Iron Fist or Ka-Zar. Ka-Zar is an interesting one but i think that rumour is only making the rounds because of all the rumours about a savage land movie based on the savage land easter eggs in Iron Man 2

Movies: Mortal Kombat Reboot - Proposal information

There are a lot of interesting things to be found in this interview with Fame director Kevin Tancharoen where he talks about the recent proposal short for a new Mortal Kombat movie, his desire to direct it and what kind of things we could expect if he was given enough creative control. Dont have time to read it all? I have summarised some of the most interesting stuff:

  • Budget $7,500
  • Tancharoen is a total fanboy for Mortal Kombat
  • Nobody at Warner or people involved with the MK franchise knew about the short's production
  • Lines like "get over here" and "finish him" will definitely be in the movie
  • Characters will be more believable
  • Fatalities will be in there
  • Treats Sub Zero and Scoprion as the main MK Icons
  • Less mysticism and more tasteful. Avoiding campyness and cheese
  • Not too over the top with fireballs and electricity going off everywhere
  • Not going crazy with too many characters.
  • Less emphasism on asian mysticism and more about demonism. To make the movie feel more evil
The article is quite a nice read though so i really reccomend you red it for yourself. Heres hoping that He gets the job and Warner moves forward :D

Bicycle Film Festival 2010 Trailer

Whats with all the reboots? Fantastic Four & Spiderman reboot rumours

According to AICN (therefore, count this is official rather than rumour), the newly rebooted Fantastic Four series` first movie will be titled 'Fantastic Four:Reborn'. I really think Fox should just give the damn rights back already and maybe just stick to making money from distribution so that Marvel can go about uniting the universe. They at least better get the casting right this time :p

In other, uncomfirmed news it seems that Lizard will be the villain in the Spiderman reboot. I worried for a while that after the announcement of a reboot, we were not gonna see The Lizard for a long time so i really hope this rumour is found to be true :D

Movies: Finally a new Mortal Kombat?

So this little teaser with Michael Jai White and Jeri Ryan appeared online overnight and made quite a buzz. Some people wondered if it was the trailer for a new Mortal Kombat movie. It seems, its all part of an elaborate proposal to get a new movie made. Well, looking at the effect this has had on various movie sites and gaming sites, i think they are succeeding in making a buzz. This new take on a Mortal Kombat movie is also pretty interesting. Replacing the fighters with serial killers and such. Though i much prefer it to be closer to the video game, i welcome such creativity and think that Michael J. White would be awesome playing "Jax" as the lead.

Life In Japan: Rainy Season

Im completely out of the loop with life. Apparently, rainy season was supposed to start last week but instead, we had gorgeous weather :D. Today was another story then and possibly the real start of it. The weather has started to get kinda warm and on some days, shorts are a must. I need to find somewhere to sunbathe or something because im getting some really ridiculous looking farmers arms/t-shirt tan arms. Im just not sure Japan is gonna be happy about me showing off the guns, they do have a ban on firearms afterall ;D.

Marvel Studios: Thor & Captain America - Teaser Poster & Costumes revealed

First of all, the Teaser Poster for Captain America:

The poster also reveals the names of Samuel L. Jackson, Tommy Lee Jones, Hugo Weaving and Neal McDonough :D

And now the costumes for both Captain America & Thor:

I love what they are doing with the Captain America costume. It holds so much of the original design and yet stays looking practical enough to be used on a battlefield. Obviously, the Captain America costumes is ridiculous but thats all going to be a part of the story line. Hey, at least they got rid of the wings on the sides of his head :s

The Thor costume however, i cant say im happy. It looks way too modern or like as if hes some dude in one of those weird ass medievil looking rock bands. The cape is fine, as is the chainmail and Mjolnir but the rest of it sucks. It needs to look more like something an actual norse god would wear. Well, Im hoping that they roll with the ultimate version of the costume once the avengers shizzle comes together :D

Avengers: Renner in for Hawkeye role?

Jeremy Renner is fucking perfect! As his name has been thrown around with the Hawkeye character over the past year, it just seemed more and more unlikely that he wouldnt be playing the role even though it was confirmed that one point he was in official talks for the character. It does seem though that he is back in talks. Could we see an official announcement soon?

Hurt Locker was fucking badass! :D

Captain America: Neal mcdonough to play Dum Dum Dugan

Neal McDonough is currently in talks to play Dum Dum Dugan in the Captain America movie. Im guessing that this means his role isnt so significant as Dugan is a modern day SHIELD operative and so having him in WW2 would mean that his character wouldnt be available for the future SHIELD movie. Dude has an awesome name :p and has played some fairly significant roles (lets forget the legend of chun-li movie). I love the star power that gets attached to Marvel movies.
McDonough will join the likes of Chris Evans, Hugo Weaving and Tommy Lee Jones in the Captain America movie on July 22, 2011

Marvel Studios: Rumour - Josh Holloway in talks?
